Gigantic Turnaround Against Barbarians A

Brno Cricket Club beat Prague Barbarians A by 9 wickets.

The Barbars batted guttsily and saw some determined solid batting especially from John, Karl and Jerome. Given Brno’s last home innings of 129, the Barbars score of 123 for 9 wickets didn’t seem too bad but would need a great bowling effort to defend that total.

What happened next was unexpected. The Brno openers played out of the skins and produced a startling display that had the crowd (of 5) going wild. Jeroff and Deepak put on 118 before the wicket of Jeroff fell in the 11th over.

Alex went out number 3 and he and Deepak quickly rounded off the innings in style with a couple of sixes into the Botanical gardens.

A win that in terms of the league, we think will put Brno into the final on the 15th of August - but the math geeks at the CCU still need to confirm.

Two non-event games hand a chance back to Brno

BRNO_CRICKET_CLUB

So on the 4th of July, Brno Cricket Club, headed up to Prague for a game against Bohemians, last years runners-up and the Champions from 2 years ago. It was going to be a tough game, and one Brno needed to win to keep alive the hopes of making it to the National finals. Well, at least we thought it was going to be tough, but since Bohemians turned up half an hour late and 6 men short of a cricket team, we took the walk-over.

It wasn’t the way we wanted to win, but it’ll do. Points are points and even though we wanted to win fairly and squarely - this is better than losing. ;)

Then on 18th of July, we had the re-scheduled game against Prague CC - the reigning champions. We thought it would be called off for bad weather, but it wasn’t. So we went ahead and started the match in light rain.

Brno won the toss and chose to bowl - hoping that the wet conditions would lead to a quick batting collapse and that we could take advantage of some brighter conditions later.

It didn’t work out like this, Prague dug their heels in a put on decent show, scoring 106 for 6 in 20 overs. then the break. Instead of easing up, it got worse. And the match was abandoned after an extended lunch at 3.30. - The picture above shows Brnos rain-soaked gear drying off in the sunshine the next day.

the abandoned game is a draw and means that Brno are right back in it, by default. A win in the final match and Brno could very well be in the final. swings and roundabouts.

Drastic Downfall at hands of Barbarians

Brno CC were handed a stiff lesson by a bunch of ruthless Barbarians

Brno 125 - 199 Barbarians B

Tomas Kelar Misses It

Yeah we lost, what do you expect? - a long match report, I don’t even do them when we win. :D

Barbarians B team won the toss and despite some great bowling, especially from Sachin who gave up just 9 runs in 7 overs for 2 wickets - the Barbarians put on 199, which should have been a get-able score.

Except that we didn’t count on Barbarians new bowler D. Chambers who took a three wicket maiden to mercilessly crush the middle order and kill any hopes of a victory.

The only ray of sunshine for Brno was an amazing display of suicidal batting from Vineesh, who smacked the Barbarians around the ground for about an hour - and nearly clawed our way back into the game with a string of 4s and 6s, including an audacious reverse hook which just dropped short of the boundary for 4.

A well-played game and we’d give Barbarians B a creditable 8/10 for being a good sports as well, not too much sledging and moaning - So they’ll be welcome back. :P
